I have decided to film the scenes at CityU, instead of Kowloon Park, as I felt Kowloon Park was just a random place, whilst CityU had a more reasonable reason why that location had been chosen.

Initial Post v2

As a filmmaker, I wanted to include a narrative structure towards this artwork, while also trying to incorporate a message that all Hong Kongers would understand.

The Idea

The idea is to give the audience complete control of where the story goes, starting from a specific point. The audience will follow a map, and depending on what they think is best for the characters, will go to that destination and play the next video from that branching storyline. As an Asian student, the stereotype of a controlling parent is far from just a funny stereotype. I wanted to take this idea, where the audience gets to be at the very location that the characters are in while watching the video, however as the video ends, a decision must be chosen by the audience, to either control the character, or to let the story go by itself. If the audience controls the character too much, the character's goal is crushed, but if the audience decides to let the characters decide for themselves, their goals are met by the end. The audience is not told of this.

Inspirations

"Her Long Black Hair" by Janet Cardiff

This artwork lets the audience visit the exact locations where the pictures were taken, allowing them to technically be in a 4D film, and are able to listen to the soundtrack/voice. I felt that this had an untapped potential of being more interactive with the audience, allowing them to follow their own journey.

Japanese Dating Sims

One of the biggest inspiration for this artwork came to me while I was surfing through the internet, but came across a "Let's Play" of a Japanese dating sim game. The branching paths, multiple story endings, it all felt very natural to add to the project. 

How will I present it?

This artwork will be presented through a website, where the audience is given a closed Youtube link, and a Google Maps map to start their journey. The videos will also be shot through my Samsung Note 3 instead of my DSLR, to make it seem like the audience is actually witnessing the event through their mobile phones.

Initial Plan

Proposal: My idea is to capture modern day Hong Kong through photography, from the green Sai Kung, to the financial center of Asia: Central. However, the photographs would be dubbed over, by the exact opposite of each setting. Sai Kung's country side's sound would be replaced by the sound of the bustling streets of Central and vice versa.

My inspiration for this idea comes from Linda Lai's: Voices seen, images heard. (https://vimeo.com/41475483) Her use of sound and video made me think of trying to make a stark contrast between nature and civilization.
